For our Graduation project at the University of Leiden, Media technology dept, we wrote a paper in which we give an overview of some existing alternative interactive displaying systems/ technologies used in the public space today. We particularly focused on the interactive non luminescent display systems.

Off course we couldn't resist to introduce a new form of non luminescent interactive display ourselves namely the PingPongPixel.
